Sharptalk Handcrafts

I have just relearned how to knit and crochet and I realize that I am in love with yarn. So I signed up to learn to spin and weave too. This blog is a history of my learning process and what I have available for sale on Etsy. What a blast!

Waiting for Friday

I am looking forward to the last spinning class on Friday.

I might also be signing up to do my first craft show in 3 weeks. A lot to look forward to, but I will need to get many projects done in order to have enough to look respectable.

I finished a scarf for an order. I will post pictures in a day or so.

Didn't get much done today. Tomorrow is another day.

Setting the twist

This is the yarn I spun last Friday. I am setting the twist by wetting the yarn and then hanging it to dry with a light weight at the bottom. It's almost dry.

This week

I am now learning to use the new loom. I use it a few times a day when I need to take a break from other projects. I think I am getting the hang of it.

In spinning class last Friday I spun my first hank of yarn. I'll be wetting it down today and letting hang to stretch out and even up the twist.

Next Friday is the last class. We will be spinning two bobbins of yarn and then learning to ply them together to make a two ply yarn. I am looking forward to this, but I am sad it is the last lesson as it has been a great experience.

Last week

Well, my loom will be in this week. So, in the meantime, I started classes to learn to use a spinning wheel. It is a lot of fun. So far I have cleaned wool right off the sheep, learned to use a drop spindle to spin wool, learned to tease the wool that is cleaned and then carded it and prepared it for spinning. I was also able to spin on several wheels to see if there was a style of wheel that suited me best.

Facebook

I put this all up on Facebook, therefore the format is weird. In the future, I will be posting so that this blog looks better. Thanks for your patience! If you are on Facebook, you can fan club me at Sharptalk Handcrafts.
